STOP
ABORTION ON DEMAND
IN SIERRA LEONE

The SAFE MOTHERHOOD Bill Is NOT Safe!

BO

We must stand against this Bill in order to protect the unborn in Sierra Leone.

The so-called “Safe Motherhood” Bill is neither safe nor does it protect motherhood. The bill would be one of the most extreme pro-abortion laws in all of Africa, and more extreme than even Europe.

If abortion is legalized, 60,000 Sierra Leonean children will be killed by abortion every year.

The Bill also disrespects YOUR rights. No one in Sierra Leone asked for this law. This Bill was funded by outside governments, like the United Kingdom and the United States, as well as other foreign organizations to depopulate Africa!

Our religious leaders oppose this Bill, as do most Sierra Leoneans.

YOU must make your voice heard. YOU must stand up for LIFE! Here are things you can do RIGHT NOW to make a difference and save the lives of 60 thousand children each year:

What You Need To Know

The Safe Motherhood Bill includes:

  • The explicit legalization of abortion up to 14 weeks for any reason (on demand)
  • The legalization of abortion throughout all 9 months for “mental health” reasons, which other countries have shown include any reason at all - even because the baby is female!
  • By removing sections 58 and 59 of the Offences Against the Person Act, the Bill removes all prohibitions on abortion so abortion on demand at any point in pregnancy would become legal automatically.
  • Various other problems, such as abortions for minors without parental knowledge, prison sentences for doctors refusing to do abortions, advertising for sexual services, and more.

Our Demands

  • We, the People, did not ask the law to change, so do not change it.
  • Any change to this law must involve a comprehensive public consultation to assess whether each element is consistent with the values of the people of Sierra Leone.
  • We will not accept abortion on demand at all. Not at 14 weeks, not at 10 weeks, not at 1 week. This is a red line.
  • Vague references to ‘mental health’ reasons for abortion are also a red line. ‘Mental health’ can be interpreted as abortion on demand and is unacceptable language. Therapeutic abortions are only permissible when the mother’s life is at risk from a physical disease.
  • Any new law on abortion must be fully scrutinized over time by the public, the religious leaders, the politicians, and medical groups, not rushed through Parliament like this. For negotiation, proper time must be given to obtain medico-legal advice, and we must all agree, instead of dividing the nation by pushing through questionable foreign ideas.
  • For any radical change such as abortion on demand (including abortion for vague ‘health’ reasons), it must pass by a referendum.
  • Any attempt to legalize abortion on demand will be met with strong opposition. The religious leaders will ensure that voters are aware of this law and are aware of who voted for it.
